CNC Turning

Precision turned parts for single and series production

CNC turning is at the heart of precision machining. At Atlas MBD, we specialise in producing turned parts with tight tolerances, excellent surface finish, and reliable consistency. Whether you require a single prototype or a series of thousands of pieces, our turning capability adapts to your needs.

Turning Capabilities

Our CNC turning equipment can produce:

  • Inner and outer contours with tight dimensional control
  • Threads (metric, imperial, special profiles)
  • Grooves, chamfers, and complex radii
  • Knurling for grip and aesthetics
  • Tapered and stepped diameters
  • High surface finish down to Ra 0.4 micrometres

We combine standard turning operations with secondary processes such as grinding to achieve the tightest tolerances and best surface finishes when required.

Materials

We can turn a wide range of materials to specification:

Steel Grades

  • S235, S355
  • 42CrMo4, 34CrMo4
  • 16MnCr5, C45
  • Other DIN and EN grades

Other Materials

  • Stainless steel (1.4301, 1.4305, 1.4404)
  • Aluminium alloys
  • Brass and copper
  • Titanium and engineering plastics

Typical Applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What tolerances do you achieve in CNC turning?
We routinely achieve tolerances of IT7 to IT8 on diameters and IT6 to IT7 on length dimensions without grinding. Tighter tolerances (IT5 and below) are achievable with grinding operations. The specific tolerance depends on part geometry, material, and the required surface finish.
What is the minimum and maximum part size you can turn?
We can turn parts from approximately 10 mm to 150 mm in diameter, with lengths up to 300 mm depending on spindle capacity and part complexity. Special requests for parts outside this range are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Do you manufacture single pieces and prototypes?
Yes, absolutely. We manufacture single prototypes and low-volume batches with the same care and precision as series production. Prototyping is an important part of our business, and we welcome enquiries for one-off parts.
Which materials can you turn?
We work with a wide range of materials including steel grades (S235, S355, 42CrMo4), stainless steel (1.4301, 1.4305, 1.4404), aluminium alloys, brass, copper, titanium and engineering plastics. Please specify your material requirements in your enquiry.
What are your lead times for turned parts?
Lead times depend on batch size, material availability, and current capacity. Typically, we can deliver prototypes within 2-3 weeks and series production within 3-6 weeks. We provide a confirmed delivery date with every quotation.
